MANILA, Philippines – Gaon Chart, Korea’s version of the Billboard Chart, held its 1st Gaon Chart K-pop Awards last night to honor top Korean artists for 2011.
The awards ceremony was held at the Blue Square Samsung Card Hall in Seoul.
In the Album of the Year category, the winners are TVXQ for the first quarter of 2011, BEAST for the second quarter, Super Junior for the third quarter and Girls Generation for the fourth quarter.
In the Singer of the Year category, the winners were announced by month. Girl group Secret was named Singer of the Year for January 2011 followed by IU (February), K-Will (March), Big Bang (April), 2NE1 (May), Secret (June), T-ara (July), Lee Ssang (August), Davichi (September), Lee Seung Gi (October), Wonder Girls (November) and IU (December).
The Rookie of the Year winners are Huh Gak and Kim Bo Kyung for the solo artist category and A Pink and B1A4 for the group category.
Girls Generation was given the Special Oricon Award while Maroon 5 was awarded the Foreign Music Award.
Gaon Chart is being supervised by the Korea Music Content Industry Association.
